Favourite characterWho is your favourite character from this book and why? Mine is Sisi. If anyone is interested I will explain why

Why??
I am not sure who my favourite charactor is. I've read the books so many times that it changes. When I first read the Wind Singer for the first time, it was Kestrel, of course. Sisi was my favourite charactor at one point (hence the username), she is sweet in the middle of Slaves of the Mastery amazeing at the end. But I was scared by how bloodthirsty she was in Firesong, when the Manth girls had to kill the Klin. I think probably Ira is my favourite charactor now. The charactor who it would be easiest to get on with would be Bowman, 'cos he can read minds!

Yeah, sisi, kess and I quite liked Pinto (after her little emo stage like =P)

KestrelHath99

aaaah pinto...how annoying. i liked babby pinpin
tiggie2o2
Pinpin was RATHER cute, and pinto after the emo stage was good, but that phase...Habableargha
KestrelHath99
Didn't that stage go right through till Kess died???? Pinto was always pretty emo. Then suddenly sister died, Mumpo all for Pinto, which is still odd to me, but hey.

tiggie2o2
Yeah, I know. Man, talk about envy!
KestrelHath99

that marriage freaks me out. surely that could never work. there'd always be paranoia form one and resentment from the other...gah.

Is Mumpo anyone's favourite charactor?
KestrelHath99

tiggie2o2
Hehe, he was scary but in a sweet 'I-love-you-Kess-so-I'm-gonna-stalk-you-for-the-rest-f-your-natural-life kinda way

Replies!
Sisi was my favourite character because there were two sides to her in the books. First she started out as the villain which I quite liked, but in the third book she was great. She had developed so much and more than any other character. She grew and became responcible as well as strong. I was very surprised with her so she made the most impression me.
KestrelHath99
she was hardly a villain!!!! but the development of her character was beyond anyone else's, which i loved
tiggie2o2
not so much a villian as a spoilt cow?
KestrelHath99
she was hardly a cow!!!!
hahaha. She wasn't. Spolit, yes. I'll give you that one. But still very lovable.

I think the words were something like 'Sisi might be ignorant, but she was not stupid.' I don't think she was ever a villan. But I think she did most of the changeing at the end of Slaves of the Mastery. And I still can't get over how enthusiastic she was about stabbing people!
KestrelHath99
yes that was...creepy, to an extent.
and when she turned the other cheek, that was the moment she changed for me!!!!

And loving, by the way.

Do you mean honestly as in 'Honestly, I'm telling the truth' or 'honestly, :roll:this lot are hopeless *sigh* '. It's a bit hard to tell with no tone of voice!
KestrelHath99
Kind of 'this lot are hopeless', but mostly 'sammy is so immature...' ha

If you ask me, which you are, mumpo is cool . in the first boook, yeah he was annoying, but you get to grow on him. of course like every1 kess was my favorite character but i find mumpo a very interesting person. Bowmans powers in the Slaves of th Mastery were absolutely awsome, and sisi's personality was verry different to everyone elses. So i find all the characters cool, and i had to come up with a name, and the chapter 'Mumpo fights the Manaxa' was cool so thats my name...

I'm not sure I liked the chapter 'Mumpo fights the Manaxa' much. I like Mumpo though, because he's so straightforward that there isn't any bad in him. I think there is something in the epilaughe of Firesong about still water that describes that, but I can't remember the quote.
One of my favourite chapters is the one where Ira wears a multicoloured costume that she makes from a beadspread and sits on the wind singer saying 'Oh unhappy people, the time has come to eat cream buns' and other things. I am still cross that they left that out of the tape, but apparently WN got a sore throat and they didn't have space or time for the whole story. Anyway, I'd better not start on that rant...
KestrelHath99
really???? they left it out???? thats stupid!!!! sore throat or not!!!!
delightofamillioneyes
it's horrendous!

yeah, it really was! i nearly felt as if i'd really be there...

I like that chapter too! I think the way the author builds the tension, develops the charactors and makes the story flow by describing who the main charactors are looking at and what they are thinking is very effective. The gaze passes from one to another, eg.Zohon is watching Ortiz who is watching Kestral who's watching Mumpo and so on. It's really neat!
(NB. I've just noticed that it looks like I've changed my opinion on this chapter since February! My favourite chapter at the moment is "The Dying of the Last Fire" in Firesong)

I hated Ortiz untill I read Slaves of the M about the third time and finally twigged (with help from you lot) that he wasn't meant to be pure evil. I still don't like him that much, but I think he's a really interesting character. It's sad he died, but it was definitely necessary to the plot...
